WTOP had a tweet this morning with this picture of I-395 in DC looking west towards the Jefferson Memorial, Tidal Basin, and Virginia. I liked the picture because it makes the area look more complex than it is. The ramp in the foreground is coming from the 9th Street Tunnel, the overpass in the near center is the L'Enfant Promenade, the overpass further back is the ramp to the 12th Street Tunnel, and the carriageway on the right is headed to Maine Avenue.

"You know, you never have a guaranteed spot until you have a spot guaranteed."
—Olaf Kolzig, as quoted in the Washington Times on March 28, 2003,
commenting on the Capitals clinching a playoff spot.

"That sounded stupid, didn't it?"
—Kolzig, to the same reporter a few seconds later.

(To be fair, a wedding was held at the chapel; it wasn't designed for guests trying to find parking spots along the narrow route, and periodically blocking it.)

Abandoned Sylvan Road in Monterey, California.

Untitled by Max Rockatansky, on Flickr

Stumbled upon this on a morning run during a work trip.  There is actually two abandoned segments and the maintained portion in La Mesa Village has a bunch of Botts Dotts.  Seems that portions of the road were closed two/three decades ago but never razed.

I took a couple pictures recently on OK 43 at the Lake Sardis Dam that I think look pretty cool:

A selection of some of my favorites from today along White Rock Road in Mariposa County.  This was one of the original county highways and has been in continuous use since the 1850s:

And today's gem was Madera County Road 607 (not on GSV).  This was part of the 1853-era Stockton-Los Angeles Road, in particular the segment between Fresno Crossing and Newton's Ferry via the Buchannan Mine.  Hard to believe something like this more or less served as the main north/south route between those two namesake cities.
