Quote from: CtrlAltDel on July 06, 2024, 10:12:32 PMAs things now stand, the center line of the storm is set to pass right through College Station, right at about the moment it will be downgraded from a tropical storm to a tropical depression.

Expected rainfall, though, has recently started going down a bit after going up and up and up over the past few days. It's now at about 5.44 inches. Past that, I don't really know what might happen, although I'm concerned about the wind.

Rain in the forecast for College Station is still slowly going down, but the wind is now at 35 mph. Which I don't like.

ETA: College Station has now been added to the tropical storm warning. Which I also don't like.

Currently under a hurricane warning. Beryl should be out of here by tomorrow afternoon.

Beryl should be like water off a duck's back, as long as it stays a TS or a minimal Cat 1 and keeps moving.

South Texas looks to have escaped the target zone...now Beryl's on track to slam SE Texas coast.  Reminds me of Hurricane Ike in 2008 when it kept turning more and more north of the originally anticipated target location.  Good luck to those of you in the Houston area.
We're so far south that we're not even considered "The South"

The track reminds me more of Rita, which was an infinitely bigger storm. Deep East Texas got hammered, but I got two drops of rain on my windshield from it in DFW.

Thought someone said it was going to be a decent Cat 2.

Cat 1 = rain with a name, as the now old TikTok saying goes... :D

Beryl completes its historic run by leaving nearly 2 million Texans in the dark.

Here is the hurricane as it approaches Houston.

Quote from: ozarkman417 on July 06, 2024, 11:17:14 PMIt's looking like the Ozarks are going to get some much needed rain from this system. The area will be on the north end of it so not enough to cause any significant flooding.

Dry ground doesn't absorb water well and will contribute to flooding.
The dry ground instead absorbed the rain and didn't allow a lot to run off.

We just started getting the rain from Beryl here within the last hour. Expected to last nearly 24 hours and could cause some flooding.

I am okay after Beryl but we did lose power for about 4 days in total. Just now got it back. I rode out the dirty side of the eyewall at Cat 1 strength for about 4 hours on Monday (for context I live decently close to the coast on the south side of the Houston metro. If you want specifics you can probably figure it out from my Travel Mapping). There is lots of tree damage and people without power but fortunately no flooding locally.

Interesting statistics from Colorado State University's website... As of today, July 17th, tropical activity so far this year as depicted by Accumulated Cyclone Energy (ACE) is running well below average as a whole in the northern hemisphere. Even when you include Hurricane Beryl, the ACE is about 50% of what you'd usually expect this time of year (and if you exclude Beryl, that percentage goes down to about 13%). Just interesting to see how quiet the tropics have been worldwide thus far this year.

Sahara dust right now has a lot to do with tamping down the North Atlantic. Once that goes away, watch out!

UPDATE: Sorry for the VERY long wait. Debby has formed and turned into a hurricane!

@Alex and @FLRoads , along with folks in NC, are getting hammered with this storm. Please be safe.

Just a heavy rain maker here. I kept looking at NWS observation sites yesterday afternoon and Albert Whitted Field at Downtown St. Petersburg was the lone place I noted with 40+ mph wind gusts. Eventual one other site recorded a 40+ mph gust. There was some storm surge along Old Tampa Bay and Hillsborough Bay that I observed yesterday when I went down to my brother's in St. Pete.

The Howard Frankland Bridge northbound was finally closed this morning due to storm surge. The causeway portion of the crossing is not much above sea level. A part of Bayshore Boulevard was also closed as it was inunidated by Hyde Park in Tampa.

Basically just some twigs and minor debris scattered around. I only saw one sizeable tree branch down on our way back to Tampa yesterday evening. Fortunately no power outages here as well.

Sounds like the GA and SC coasts will be underwater in a couple of days???

I've heard a couple comparisons between Debby and the 2015 Firehose/Hurricane Joaquin and Hurricane Florence for South Carolina impacts.

WMBF & WBTW are forecasting upwards of 12-16" of rain for Horry and Georgetown Counties.

My area experienced about 12-13" in December that flooded much of downtown Georgetown, including the county courthouse.  https://wpde.com/news/local/georgetown-county-flooding-noreaster-flash-rain-courthouse-coastal-storm-damage-gallery-photos-south-carolina-december-18-2023

Those are some pretty interesting city choices for the hurricane map in the thumbnail. Las Vegas has had one hurricane; has Denver had any?

Looks like a fish storm for the most part as it concerns the U.S. mainland, but Puerto Rico and Hispaniola need to be on the lookout.

So this is when the Atlantic will come alive in earnest, is that right?

It'd be hilarious if nothing ended up happening in any of the 5 Atlantic areas being watched right now.
