Minor things that bother you

I recently sold a non-running vehicle on Facebook Marketplace.  Last time I did so, the vehicle was a very desirable model, so I could have asked for more than I did, and it was on a dealer's trailer in less than four hours—even with a thrown rod—with my asking price in my hand.  This time around, though, it was not a desirable vehicle model, and I started off asking for more than I thought it was worth.

The minor thing that bothers me is this message string:

— Good morning, is this still available?
— Yes, still available.  Let me know if you have any questions.
— How much is the least he asks for.
* This is not how this works.  There's a price on my listing, and I didn't put 'OBO' or anything.  Grr. *
— I have it listed with a price.  If you want to look at it and make a different offer, then let me know.
— You tell me how much.
* I did.  In the listing.  With a dollar sign next to it.  Grr. *
— I have it listed for $1900.  How much are you offering?
crickets...

When I was a kid* at the comic book shop, I was (and still am) big into scifi/horror, eldritch abominations, etc. Dark Horse had some comics based on John Carpenter's The Thing creature.

But to find those in the "Thing" box, you had to flip past all those other superhero comics with that stupid rock guy from the X-men.

* cool, minor things that bothered me as a minor

Quote from: vdeane on July 21, 2025, 09:19:02 PMThe fact that my landlord doesn't give a shit about water leaks unless the water is actively and continuously dripping.  I've just had the same leak cause damage on my ceiling three times in the past two months, but because it only happens once in a while and has never yet broken through into my unit (sometimes even while they're in the middle of repairs!), they won't do anything more than a cosmetic fix, even though it smells very musty and I've been getting headaches and the like.  Meanwhile, my upstairs neighbor had black mold on his toilet (which is right above my leak, as it happens - someone who is smarter than my landlord might even assume that this is related!), and all they did was clean it up, never investigate why it was there and fix any leaks.  I'm sick of living in a construction zone, so from now on I'm not reporting water leaks unless it's so obvious even a gorilla could figure it out.

Meanwhile, they heavily restrict (and summarily ignore) written communication - they only way to get even half measures out of them is to call or talk in person, which leaves no record.  They're basically slumlords with very shady business practices (they even auto-enrolled me and billed me for renter's insurance even though I already have renter's insurance).  It's a shame; this complex was actually somewhat decent before they bought it last year when my old landlord retired (although he's also the one who let the plumbing rot, so he wasn't perfect).

That's very foolish of them.  Fixing leaks when they are small keeps them from becoming huge problems later.  Consider moving?

Suggestion:  Write them a letter and save a copy for yourself, mail it certified with return receipt.  Then they can't claim they didn't get it.

I have a couple of storage units rented, and they too play the "automatically enroll in THEIR insurance plan unless I prove that my homeowner's insurance covers it.  My word is not enough.  Must remember to send them the HO certificate of coverage every year or they will auto-enroll me.  Bastards.
