On another topic, I want to remind the rest of you about an important fact --- AI is bullshit.

Both last year and this year I took a series of photos of the Altamonte Springs SunRail station, along with other stations on both trips. I decided to check some of them out on my cell phone. I examined one in the vicinity of the northernmost pedestrian crossing, and put it in Google's AI Mode. It misidentifies the station as the Jessup MARC station in Maryland. I took another pic across the tracks, where the Lynx 426 bus was stopping on the busway and put that in Google AI mode, and it misidentified that one as being at Lake Mary SunRail station, which is two stations north. I took pictures of Lake Mary station on one of these runs too, including the busway there. But there were no buses at the time.

My wife often is oblivious to how much time it takes to do things and often tells me she wants to go do something at the last minute.  Sometimes this really frustrates me, today's scenario is a good example.

For background, I write my own schedule and have very flexible work hours.  That being the case I'm working a Tuesday-Saturday work week because I took my mother in law to a neurologist appointment this past Monday.

Apparently there is a fall carnival going on in Firebaugh tonight (where my wife is from).  My wife has said nothing about going to said carnival until just a couple minutes ago via text message.  There are some logistical issues I have with this.

For one, at any point during the week my wife could have told me she wanted to go to the carnival.  If I had advanced knowledge I could have packed a change of clothes and left from the office.  My office is one hour from Firebaugh.

As it stands now it seems I have a 35-40 minute drive to backtrack home to Fresno after work (which ends at 3:30 PM).  From Fresno it is a 55 minute drive to Firebaugh.  My wife could have just left with my niece and met me at the carnival.  I'm gathering the plan is to consolidate into one vehicle.

Now at minimum in the best case scenario we are arriving at the carnival at 4:30 PM (more likely 5-5:30 PM).  I had planned to wash clothes tonight because we are invited to my wife's cousin's homecoming party (military leave) all day tomorrow. The party is not optional since the cousin is bringing her fiancé.

Now I have to scramble to figure out how I'm going to get my clothes washed and sorted.  My wife isn't at home at the moment (having lunch with her dad) so having her start the wash isn't an option.  Again if I had advanced knowledge I could have started the wash last night or when I got up at 5:30 AM.

I'm sure that I'll be offered free food or drink when I get home.  All I told my wife for now is that I need to think about the carnival.  In particular I feel like this happens mostly when I work a random Saturday (IMO exemplifies the definition of bothersome things which are minor).  I'm thinking that I probably should just stop doing that and take vacation for things like this past Monday.

Worth noting, I was under the impression my wife wanted to rent a movie tonight.  We had talked about doing so yesterday afternoon.

The amusing thing is I know exactly how Jessica could (can?) easily make a convincing argument for the carnival.  All she really would have to say is our niece is the one who wants to go.  I really don't have a good counter argument for that.

If anyone was wondering about the carnival we left two hours later than planned.  About an hour of it was wasted getting my brother in law a Korean Corn Dog (which apparently is a thing).

People who don't understand how the four seasons work.

Maybe it's just Minnesota culture to bitch about the weather no matter what, but people here think the temperature is supposed to plummet on the spot when Labor Day passes. September is a borderline summer month and always has been. Its daily mean maximum in Minneapolis is 4 degrees higher than May, 6 degrees lower than June.

Today? 75, sunny, no clouds, minimal humidity, minimal wind. And people are sad about it. Some Minnesotans need to develop a personality.

In general bitching about something seems to be way easier for most people than to be happy about something.

My project this morning is writing up a summary of Bouquet Canyon Road in Los Angeles County.  Most of the roadway lies north of the Santa Clara River and doesn't have a very complicated history.  However, the segment south of Soledad Canyon Road to Sagus Junction was part of the Roosevelt Midland Trail, Legislative Route Number 23, California State Route 7 and US Route 6.  A quarter mile segment of the overall Bouquet Canyon corridor is making what ought to be simple blog a slog to write for.

You're making me think of a woman in my law school class who didn't have a warm coat and was always freezing her arse off on cold, windy winter days. I asked her about it and she said, "I'm from Connecticut and I shouldn't need a warm coat in North Carolina."

The so-called "Blizzard of '96" was during our first year of law school. Durham got walloped. What made it worse was that the county's snowplow broke down. You read that correctly: snowplow, singular.

But, priorities at Duke University being what they are, one notable thing was not postponed: the men's basketball home game against Georgia Tech.

Since a recent forum update, it now "corrects" formatting errors.  Say, if I use an [.i.] tag but forget to add the corresponding [./i] tag, then the forum "corrects" my post by adding the missing tag.  However, things can go really wonky if my post has a whole bunch of formatting in it.

For example, last week, I had a long post in which I messed up a formatting tag.  When I clicked on [PREVIEW], the forum "corrected" my mistake by adding about a zillion formatting tags in the places where it decided I must have intended them to go.  I identified where I went wrong and fixed it, but then I had to locate and delete those zillion other tags that I never put in there to begin with.

The fact that recycling old electronics, especially computer monitors, is so impractical.  I have an old desktop and two old monitors (old enough that they only do VGA/DVI) that I need to get rid of, and I'd like to get rid of various other misc. things (like my old graphing calculator).  Unfortunately, many places are only open during business hours, or if they have Saturday hours, it's only Saturday morning, which doesn't help since I'm not up and ready to go until 1-2 at the earliest on a normal Saturday.  And places like Staples and Best Buy charge for monitors.  Why do I have to pay to get rid of something?  At this point I'm now spending more time thinking about ways to rearrange the storage unit to find space for them, since it doesn't look like I'll be able to get rid of them this Saturday like I hoped, and I don't want to stare at them in boxes in my apartment any longer than I already have.

Now if only there was a way to get the fasteners back for my desk that went missing (probably accidentally stolen by either the movers or Verizon, but nobody was willing to look for them and return them) when I moved, since it would be great if I could put that door back on rather than stare at an empty compartment with a hole where the hinge is supposed to attach and which I have no way to use now that I don't use a desktop computer.

And honestly, I feel like I have way too much stuff, but I can't think of much that I'd be willing to get rid of to downsize (and what I can is inevitably some collectable that's more of a hassle to get rid of than just tossing in the dumpster).

I do, but it is more a problem of being physically incapable of staying sleeping past 6 AM.

My wife and I only sleep in an extra hour or so.  We've finished the grocery shopping and the boys have done their house cleaning chores by lunchtime on Saturday.

But anyway, there's a huge* difference between "sleeping in" and "not up and ready to go until 1-2 at the earliest".
