All forms of contraception reduce risk, but none eliminate it.
Hormonal methods like the pill are highly effective when used correctly, but not everyone can tolerate them due to side effects to their period.
Other methods -- condoms, diaphragm, withdrawal, timing, etc. -- all have higher failure rates.

Even a woman with only one lifetime partner can have side‑effects or medical contraindications with hormonal contraception.

I think it as just plain weird when in the dating world today, this question and "term" likely comes up:

"What's Your 'Body Count'"? -- The 20's equivalent of "how many notches are there on your bedpost?"

I think "notching the bedpost" is weirder, personally. Intentionally damaging a piece of furniture in this economy would be an ostentatious display of wealth.

Upping your body count might very well require some level of wealth. "You get what you pay for."
