Quote from: Max Rockatansky on May 14, 2026, 12:54:45 PMThere is only one Kern County in the United States.  I only recently found this out for myself when people kept complaining on our Facebook page about not knowing where Kern County was.  I would have thought such a short county name would have at least one other instance.

I was surprised to find out that the only Pine County is the one in Minnesota.

(White Pine, NV) :D
Pinellas County, FL too, if you count Spanish names.
Pinal County, AZ is also derivative

Some people maintain that Canada was not truly independent until 1982 when the Queen gave Royal Assent to the Canada Act 1982, which ended the British Parliament's power to amend the Canadian constitution. Perhaps that's what the reference meant. After all, I'd wager that a fair number of us were born before 1982.

Forgive me for not knowing more about the history of Canadian politics, but...

Between the Balfour Declaration of 1926 and the Statute of Westminster of 1931, the monarch's appointed representative in Canada—i.e., the Governor General—is only ever somebody who was already chosen by the Canadian Prime Minister, right?  To me, that sounds like Canada has been independent from the crown for almost 100 years by now.

Ooh, didn't know how to do that in Excel.

In Word, Shift-F3 [hold as needed] will alternate between "no caps", "ALL CAPS", but I forget if the last one is "Title Case" (Which Is Probably Called Proper As Seen Above) or "First letter only".

Unfortunately, it doesn't understand an initialism or acronym, and doesn't leave out articles / prepositions / conjunctions from capitalization.
