Kohl's to drop Chaps brand

Looks like Kohl's is dropping the Chaps clothing brand by the end of the year.  For those who don't know, Chaps is Ralph Lauren's lower cost brand.  Besides Kohl's, the other two main retailers for Chaps are Belk and Amazon.

I wonder if competitor IZOD will benefit from this.  Both Chaps and IZOD are currently sold at Kohl's, but looks like Chaps is getting the boot.  The mid-market is somewhat being squeezed from below by fast fashion brands, as well as from above by premium brands.  It seems like IZOD has been a bit more innovative in its design than Chaps.

People still shop at Kohl's?

Yes.  Once every four years, for something specific, at the suggestion of a casual friend, with a coupon.

Half their foot traffic now is people returning Amazon stuff.

I'm not sure what you're referring to. The events that I can think of that occur every four years are the presidential election, the Summer Olympics, the Winter Olympics, the World Cup, and leap day. I can't think of what any of those have to do with Kohl's.

I *think* four was just a number picked at random. It was a humorous way of saying that people don't shop there very often.

You mean, like always?  If you can't find a coupon, you're not looking hard enough.  Or just have to wait a week for the next ad.

Kohl's is my primary clothing store (not that I need anything from there more than about once a year).

Bingo. And you get a 15% of coupon when doing so, so I actually end up shopping at Kohls more than you'd think. I got two pairs of jeans from them recently, and saved a good chunk with existing sales at the store.

I last went there to buy a wedding gift for my cousin... But N E WAY people are only going to Kohls if they have coupons.

It might now be mine two.  The last two times I was shopping (one online, one in person), the selection at JCPenney was pretty bad, with many things missing or out of stock, and the store looked a lot like Sears.  Plus the eliminated free ship to store, so that advantage they had is gone too.  Right now the only advantages they have left are more convenient locations and not having to deal with Kohl's Cash, but those don't mean much if I can't get what I need.

I'm surprised they are not only still in business, but not struggling to the extent JCPenney, Macy's, etc, are. I think the department store model is dying.

You sir, are on point.

I actually really love Kohl's. However, I've done almost no clothing shopping since the pandemic because around here their fitting rooms are closed and I'm not buying three of each thing of something I like to return the ones that don't fit.

Edit to add: I never bought anything Chaps so I'm apathetic about them leaving.

I suppose it helps to be next door to Target.

I just had a conversation yesterday evening with a guy at church about online clothes shopping.  I'll never buy shoes or a fitted hat without trying it on.  Most other things, however, I will.  I'm tall and skinny, which means I can almost never find jeans in my size–except occasionally at western wear stores–but shopping by size online is a lot easier for men than for women.  For long-sleeved shirts, I just have to make sure to get the 'tall' size (Medium-Tall, Large-Tall).

When buying IZOD, I have learned the fits by item type.  The patterned Advantage Polos run smaller than the solid. The same was true with the Windward Interlock Polos as well.   The Golf polos tend to have the largest fit. Also, the short sleeve button-downs run smaller than the long sleeve.

Kohl's is a reprehensible company in terms of how it treats its employees and its suppliers.

And yet I can't find anything on Google in regards to either employees or suppliers complaining (except on glassdoor, which every company in the USA will show you the same thing).

Meanwhile the two I know that work there have no issues.

Big corporation being a big corporation? Who would've thought?

But seriously, the vast majority of big companies are scummy in one way or another. It's impossible to avoid purchasing products or services without coming across at least one.

This was my life buying jeans last summer. I just went to my car to try them on (seat all the way back...etc). Thankfully I did, as one of the buttons came off a pair that I bought.

Trying things on is mainly just to make sure it's not too large or small.

Huh, it was 25% pre-pandemic. Tough to get upset at a store waving a discount at you for a mistake they didn't make! So roughly twice a year, I'll buy something from them.

(Never mind, on the internet someone will find a way to be upset about this.)
