$1 coins tend to make people grumpy. People will think you shorted them $1, then you have to admit you gave them a dollar coin, then sometimes they'll complain and ask why can't you give them a paper bill instead. And sometimes will demand you open the drawer up and give them a bill.

Never had that happen, personally.  Then again, you've dealt with a LOT more customers than I have.

True, and it depends a lot on your customer base as well. I was actually drawing mostly on my fast-food experience here. At the casino, $2 bills and $1 coins were near-universally shunned because they didn't work in the slot machines (which accept only bills, and for no good reason were usually configured not to accept $2s). You could sometimes hand out the $2 bills if you knew the customer was going home, or if they were cashing out enough money that $2 wouldn't make much of a difference in what they could gamble with. $1 coins, though, were basically radioactive. About the only time you could hand those out was if the customers explicitly stated they needed change for the vending machine, which did accept coins (it is so much easier to get a machine to accept a $1 coin than a ratty $1 bill).

The use of Dollar coins and two dollar bills.

Canada no longer uses $2 bills – they use $2 coins now. Their lowest bill in current use is $5.

Yup, but we don't use either.

Speak for yourself.  I use dollar coins and two-dollar bills.

Yup but the average American prefers paper and if they obtain one they will spend it just to get rid of it.   Many Americans find no use for coins either of other common denomination as well.   Being most things cost over a dollar, coins seem outdated to some.    Then with plastic, which the world governments want us to use by 2030, is another reason to make coins and irritation to many as well.

Only applies to dollar coins.  Does not apply to $2 bills.

When I accompany my wife to vendor events (she has a direct-sales business), customers light up when their change includes a dollar coin or two-dollar bill.  I've never had anyone express frustration or dismay..

Two dollar bills many collect cause the misconception is that you don't see them often they have become extinct.

Every day is a winding road, you just got to get used to it.

And, of course, the reason you don't see them is because people keep them and don't spend them. BEP printed 306 million of them for Series 2017, but they apparently all ended up in sock drawers because then they turned around and printed $2s for Series 2017A as well.

How some people on this forum use various formatting tricks to set off the usernames of other posters. I've seen italics, pipe characters on either side of their name, and just now I saw use of dark blue.

I don't really think it's necessary because it's usually clear that it's a name from context, but it's interesting seeing the different methods people use.

@Scott5114 - That's a pretty interesting take. I too enjoy that type of thing.

That the "Minor things that bother you" thread has been running for so long and hasn't been locked yet. At first I thought it would descend into a fight quickly.

That I will finally become eligible for the coronavirus vaccine on a Tuesday the 13th, otherwise considered an unlucky day in Spain (akin to Friday the 13th in the USA).

I once had a boss who got married on Friday the 13th (unlucky here).  He and his wife aren't superstitious, and it was really easy to reserve facilities.

Virginia's radar detector ban.
How many people actually use a radar detector where it's legal?

i've often wondered about them. i mean, if it bleeps, you've already been radar-ed, right? plus, with all the new cars having radar on them, i mean yeah some filter them out but how effective and/or relevant are they nowadays?

Also, in more populated areas, services like Waze that report the location of cops can, if accurate, provide much more advance warning than a radar detector can. (Such services aren't perfect, of course, and rely on other users of the app to be passing through the area, which isn't guaranteed on a two-lane outside of the city.)

Radar detectors are also illegal in Canada except BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan

They're also illegal in DC, but you're probably never going to be going fast enough for one to be relevant there.

The fact I-180 has been included in the recently released Wyoming DLC for American Truck Simulator. That is just pure madness.

When a fast food place gets my order wrong. Usually, if the food I got instead has a similar value to the one I bought (say, a chicken sandwich vs. a hamburger), I'll usually eat the (wrong) item regardless, unless something is egregiously wrong.

Typically my condiment preferences on a burger/sandwich are nice-to-have and not something I have to die for because of hatred or allergy reasons. So if I ask for no tomatoes and they screw it up, I'll either eat them anyway or just pull them off.

The fact that Tuxedo shirt buttons are not sowed on like normal button shirts.  I don't wear Tuxedos as to me they are snob suits, but still when you think about it seems silly as why not sow it on in the first place. Why make the user have to attach and de attach the buttons, and store them separately in the first place?

Same. The only time I complain is if an item is totally missing, and sometimes not even then if I don't notice until I get home, and I don't feel like going back to get my item. (The last time McDonald's left something out I fibbed a little and said they left out my fries too, since by the time I'd have gotten home with the missing item the fries would have been ice cold.)
