The western branch navigates along a stair stepped route for 11.35 miles between CR 173 and SR 273. Beyond an implied overlap with SR 273, CR 162 resumes for 17.15 miles to Jacobs and the town of Greenwood, where it connects with SR 71 and SR 69 south.
A separate branch of County Road 162 links CR 181 near Thomas Bay with CR 179A at the community of Cerrogordo. The 2.37 mile long connector is located northwest of Westville in Holmes County.
