Forming a bypass north of Ocala, State Road 326 connects I-75 with U.S. 301/441 and SR 40 east of Silver Springs. The 11.27 mile long state road constitutes a well traveled four lane link between I-75 (Exit 358) and the U.S. 301 corridor leading northeast toward Jacksonville. East of U.S. 301/441, SR 326 reduces to two lanes across the rural outskirts of Ocala to Indian Lake State Forest and Silver Springs Forest Conservation Area. SR 326 ties into SR 40 (Fort Brooks Road) at Silver Springs State Park.

County Road 326 extends 15 miles west from the parclo interchange joining SR 326 with I-75 to Emathla, U.S. 27 at Blitchton and Morriston in Levy County. Within Morriston, CR 326 dog legs north along SE 200th Avenue from SE 35th Street to SE 32nd Place (CR 323). An implied overlap leads CR 326 north along U.S. 41 to SE 30th Street, which leads the route 18.1 miles west to U.S. 19/98 at Gulf Hammock. West of U.S. 19/98, CR 326 spurs 3.9 miles to Waccasassa Park and boat ramp along the Waccasassa River.

An $8.4 million contract was awarded by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) on February 17, 1997 for the widening of State Road 326 east from Interstate 75 to U.S. 441. Work also made improvements to the interchange joining SR 326 with I-75. This included realigning the route south off NW 77th Street to the intersection joining U.S. 441 with then County Road 326 east.1
