I-189 opened in 1962 on the same day that I-89 did between Exit 13 and Winooski. The spur ends at U.S. 7 near Queen City Park on the Burlington city line. An unopened extension of the roadway, Champlain Parkway, spurs northwest to Home Avenue. Following environmental and community resistance since the 1970s, construction of the two lane parkway into Downtown finally got underway in 2022.
