Interstate 169 - Edward T. Breathitt Parkway

The Edward T. Breathitt (Pennyrile) Parkway is a limited access highway connecting Hopkinsville, Crofton and Nortonville in western Kentucky. The 34.26 mile long route runs north from I-24 to the exchange joining I-69 with Western Kentucky Parkway. The parkway will become I-169 once upgrades to Interstate standards are completed. This includes replacing the four loop interchange with KY 1682 (Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Way) on the north side of Hopkinsville, where toll booths were once located.
$13.9 million in construction made the final upgrades needed to bring the Pennyrile Parkway to Interstate standards. A ground breaking ceremony for the Work took place on August 3, 2023. The contract included increasing vertical bridge clearances at three overpasses, making geometric improvements at Exits 30, 33 and 34, and replacing bridge railings. Construction was anticipated for completion in November 2024. Pending approval by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), signage marking Interstate 169 can then be erected.1
Governor Andy Beshear announced the completion of work upgrading the Pennyrile Parkway, and the remaining 21 miles of the Purchase Parkway to Interstate standards on December 24, 2024. Interstate signage for I-169 and I-69 could then be erected along the respective sections of roadway.
