The East End Connector joins NC 147 and the Durham Freeway with U.S. 70 along S Miami Boulevard in Durham. A $142 million project started in February 2015, construction for the East End Connector both added a new freeway linking NC 147 (Durham Freeway) with U.S. 70 and upgraded U.S. 70 north from the freeway to Interstate 85. Opened to traffic on June 30, 2022 following years of delays, the East End Connector completed the loop between I-85 and I-40. Interstate 885 replaced NC 147 south along the Durham Freeway to the TriEx, where NC 147 Toll was renumbered as NC 885 Toll.
