Interstate A4 coincides with all 323.72 miles of Alaska State Route 3 along Parks Highway. The route branches west from I-A1/SR 1 (Glenn Highway) at Gateway to Wasilla, Meadow Lakes and Houston. Parks Highway heads north from Willow to Denali State Park and east from Nenana to Fairbanks.

I-A4 extends the freeway from I-A1 (Glenn Highway) at Gateway 5.5 miles west to a SPUI with Seward Meridian Parkway at east Wasilla. Parks Highway transitions into a five lane boulevard west from there across the city of Wasilla. An at-grade controlled access expressway stretches 4.2 miles west around Jacobsen Lake from Church Road in west Wasilla to Pittman Road at Meadow Lakes.

I-A4 constitutes a controlled access expressway 6.81 miles east from ahead of Sheep Creek Road to the trumpet interchange with SR 2 (Steese Expressway / Richardson Highway). SR 3 is fully limited access south from Sheep Creek Road to University Avenue northeast of Fairbanks International Airport (FAI).
