Interstate A1 overlays Alaska State Route 1 northeast from Anchorage 303.48 miles to Tok. The lone limited access section stretches 34.31 miles along Glenn Highway from the intersection of Airport Heights Street / Mountain View Drive in the city of Anchorage to the two-wye interchange with SR 3 (Parks Highway) at Gateway.

The south end of I-A1 is at the intersections of E 5th Avenue and Gambell Street along southbound SR 1 and E 6th Avenue and Ingra Street along northbound SR 1. These intersections are mark the north end of Interstate A3.

The north end of State Route 1 along Tok Cutoff Highway doubles as the end point for I-A1 in Tok. Both routes conclude at SR 2 (Alaska Highway), which is Interstate A2.
