Highway 2 extends 251 miles east from N-2 across the width of Iowa between Nebraska City and Fort Madison. N-2 originates in Lincoln, 51.3 miles to the west. Iowa 2 runs through the seat of every county it passes through except for Van Buren County, where it misses Keosauqua four miles to the south. The east end is at an interchange with the U.S. 61 freeway outside Fort Madison. Prior to the bypass's completion in 2013, Iowa 2 continued 5.3 miles further along an overlap with U.S. 61 to the Fort Madison Toll Bridge linking with Illinois 9.
