Maryland Route 4 extends east from Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. through the suburbs of Suitland and Meadows. The state route upgrades to a freeway bypass of Upper Marlboro and Bristol before turning southward into Calvert County. MD 4 maintains four lanes alongside MD 2 from Sunderland south to the Patuxent River near Solomons. The state route concludes a 64.85 mile course at MD 5 near Leonardtown.

Maryland Route 4 scenes
MD 258 (Bay Front Road) travels east-west between MD 4 (Southern Maryland Boulevard) at Bristol and MD 256 near Churchton (Deale Churchton Road). The state route ends at a diamond interchange with the MD 4 freeway near MD 259 (Greenrock Road). 09/25/04
MD 258 ends at the southbound on-ramp to MD 4 (Southern Maryland Boulevard). Wrighton Road continues west from Bay Front Road to Patuxent River Park. MD 4 continues as a freeway for another two miles to MD 260 at Lyons Creek. 09/25/04
Maryland Route 794
MD 794 (Southern Maryland Boulevard) southbound at the western terminus of MD 259 (Greenock Road). MD 259 links MD 794 and the adjacent MD 4 freeway (Southern Maryland Boulevard) with MD 408 (Marlboro Road) at Greenock. 09/25/04
MD 794 represents the original alignment of MD 4 between the communities of Bristol and Drury. The two lane highway acts as a northbound side frontage road between MD 408 (Marlboro Road) and MD 258 (Bay Front Road).
