Maryland Route 4 extends east from Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C. through the suburbs of Suitland and Meadows. The state route upgrades to a freeway bypass of Upper Marlboro and Bristol before turning southward into Calvert County. Maryland 4 maintains four lanes along side MD 2 from Sunderland south to the Patuxent River near Solomons. The state route concludes a 64.85 mile course at MD 5 near Leonardtown.

Maryland Route 794
Maryland 794 (Southern Maryland Boulevard) southbound at the western terminus of Maryland 259 (Greenock Road). Maryland 259 links Maryland 794 and the adjacent Maryland 4 freeway (Southern Maryland Boulevard) with Maryland 408 (Marlboro Road) at Greenock. Photo taken 09/25/04.
Maryland 794 represents the original alignment of Maryland 4 between the communities of Bristol and Drury. The two-lane highway acts as a northbound side frontage road between Maryland 408 (Marlboro Road) and Maryland 258 (Bay Front Road).
