Highway 18

S.C. 18 extends 39.04 miles south from North Carolina Route 18 to Gaffney, Jonesville and Union in the Upstate of South Carolina. S.C. 18 between Jonesville and Union follows the former alignment of U.S. 176, which bypasses the two communities along a four lane highway to the west. The multi state highway continues north to Shelby, Morganton, Lenoir, Wilkesboro and NC 89 near the Virginia state line.
S.C. 49 was realigned northward to bypass Downtown Union along Rice Avenue west from S.C. 18 (Thompson Boulevard) to U.S. 176 and Arthur Boulevard to E Main Street.
