U.S. 13

U.S. 13

U.S. 13 originates in North Carolina at the exchange joining Interstate 95 with NC 295 (Fayetteville Outer Loop) at Eastover in Cumberland County. Following a 189 mile course, U.S. 13 travel northeast to the Virginia state line at Suffolk.

U.S. 13 branches east from the I-95 corridor outside Fayetteville to Spivey's Corner (U.S. 421) and Newton Grove (U.S. 701). U.S. 13 spans Interstate 40 with no direct access outside Newton Grove.

Eastward toward Goldsboro, U.S. 13 combines with U.S. 117 for 6.13 miles into the city. Along with U.S. 70, U.S. 13/117 follow part of an older bypass freeway encircling Downtown Goldsboro. U.S. 13 separates from the freeway along Berkeley Boulevard northeast en route to the Greene County seat of Snow Hill.

North from Snow Hill, U.S. 13 overlaps with U.S. 258 for 6.45 miles. U.S. 258 continues north to Farmville while U.S. 13 turns east again to the city of Greenville. U.S. 264 encircles Greenville along a partial freeway bypass while U.S. 13 stays west of Downtown along Memorial Drive to Pitt-Greenville Airport (PGV). U.S. 13 extends north from an exchange with U.S. 264 to Bethel and Future I-87/U.S. 64.

Future Interstate 87 overlays all of U.S. 64 east from Knightdale to Williamston. U.S. 13 combines with the freeway for 17.98 miles east to Sycamore Street in Williamston, where U.S. 64 splits east toward the Outer Banks. U.S. 17 joins Future I-87 at the prior interchange north from Washington and extends the I-87 corridor northeast to Hampton Roads, Virginia.

U.S. 13/17 overlap 14.47 miles north to a freeway bypass of Windsor. U.S. 17 turns east there to Edenton while U.S. 13 shifts onto a rural two lane highway north to Ahoskie. Continuing to Winton, U.S. 13 combines with U.S. 158 for 6.63 miles across the Chowan River into Gates County. Construction (project R-5311) starting in Summer 2021 will realign and upgrade U.S. 13 into a four lane freeway from north of Ahoskie to Winton. The freeway will extend southwest along NC 11 to NC 561.
