U.S. 14 travels 198.49 miles southeast across Wisconsin from La Crosse into Illinois beyond Walworth. U.S. 14 spans the Mississippi River alongside U.S. 61 from La Crescent, Minnesota. The two routes overlap 45.3 miles south to Coon Valley, Viroqua and Readstown in Vernon County.1 U.S. 14 turns east from U.S. 61 to Richland and then south to combine with Wis 60 paralleling the Wisconsin River.

Shifting south across the Wisconsin River from Wis 60 and Spring Green, U.S. 14 advances east into Dane County ahead of Mazomanie. U.S. 14 joins the Madison Beltline and U.S. 12 in Middleton. The freeway encircles the Wisconsin capital city east to I-39/90. U.S. 18/151 combine with U.S. 12/14 northeast from Verona.

U.S. 14 branches south from the Madison Beltline at the same interchange where U.S. 151 turns north along S Park Street toward Downtown. U.S. 14 lines a freeway 9.1 miles south from U.S. 12/18/151 through Fitchburg to Wis 138 at Oregon. Continuing into Rock County, U.S. 14 travels with two lanes to Evansville.

Following an overlap with Wis 59, U.S. 14 heads east from Evansville to loop around Janesville. Joining Wis 11 got 11.2 miles, U.S. 14 continues east into Walworth County at the town of Darien. There U.S. 14 angles southeast to the villages Darien and Walworth before turning south to Harvard, Illinois.
