U.S. 36

U.S. 36 crosses Missouri from St. Joseph to Hannibal. Through St. Joseph, U.S. 36 runs along a freeway from the Pony Express Bridges over the Missouri River to the Platte River east of the city. A freeway bypass ties into the Pony Express Bridges around Elwood, Kansas from the west. This alignment was approved by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) on December 7, 1984.


U.S. 36 and Route 110 (Chicago Kansas City Expressway) overlap for 162 miles east from I-35 to I-172 near East Hannibal, Illinois.
