U.S. Highway 82 West - Lubbock

U.S. 82 West
This view looks west along 4th street where US 82 turns from west to southwest. When this photo was taken, the new US 82 freeway lanes were under construction in the center of the right of way. Photo taken 04/20/08.
Here, US 82 leaves 4th St to its main freeway lanes. Photo taken 04/20/08.
This view looks at the temporary US 82 roadway running southwest over the future right of way for the freeway. Photo taken 04/20/08.
A reassurance marker sits here under the overpass that will eventually carry eastbound 4th St over the freeway. Photo taken 04/20/08.
US 82 is open as a freeway for short period south of 4th St here. Photo taken 04/20/08.
The first overpass along the opened freeway section is for a pedestrian overpass. There will be two dedicated pedestrian overpasses here. US 82, the Marsha Sharp freeway, will separate Texas Tech University from many of its residential areas. These pedestrian bridges will serve as a bridge for mostly student traffic. Photo taken 04/20/08.
This bridge will carry Indiana Avenue over the Marsha Sharp freeway when it is completed in 2009. Indiana is a major north/south arterial in Lubbock and runs along the west side of TTU. Photo taken 04/20/08.

This temporary sign indicates the next exit for TTU Parkway. Photo taken 04/20/08.
The diamond interchange at TTU Parkway is currently the only open exit along the Marsha Sharp Freeway. TTU Parkway is a newer north/south route along the west side of the University. During construction, it provides the detour for Indiana Avenue. Photo taken 04/20/08.
Through the TTU campus, the Sharp Freeway is in a trench and is decorated in a Spanish theme, which matches the architectural theme of the older TTU buildings. Photo taken 04/20/08.
As US 82 prepares to meet US 62 and 19th St, the short open freeway portion ends and all traffic is redirected out of the trench to the east-side frontage roads. Photo taken 04/20/08.
These views look towards the west at the under-construction US 62/19th St interchange with the Marsha Sharp Freeway. US 62 will have a direct connection ramp from its westbound lanes, saving drivers a left turn. Photos taken 04/20/08.
Before completion, drivers must stop at a red light at 19th St (US 62) and US 82 (Brownfield Highway). Photo taken 04/20/08.
U.S. 62 & 82 West
After 19th St, US 62 joins US 82 for an overlap. The freeway is replacing the Brownfield Highway, which is a horrendous traffic trip. TTU employs most of Lubbock's workforce and this road connects the campus with the sprawling areas of the city to the west and south. Photo taken 04/20/08.
Currently, traffic must travel under the future direct connection ramp from 19th St. In the future, this will be the exit ramp for Quaker Avenue. Photo taken 04/20/08.
Another reassurance marker for the US highway overlap greets drivers here just before Quaker Avenue. Photo taken 04/20/08.
Quaker is another major road on the west side of the city. When this photo was taken, the bridge over the arterial was being constructed and it was closed. Photo taken 04/20/08.
As the future freeway runs through residential areas, sound walls have been constructed here on the west side. Photos taken 04/20/08.
Drivers wishing to get to southbound Quaker, which is closed, can use this detour. Photo taken 04/20/08.
At this point, traffic is diverted onto the old road, the Brownfield Highway. On weekdays, this road gets very busy and has extremely poorly timed lights. Photos taken 04/20/08.
At Slide Road, another large arterial, the freeway construction can be seen on the west side of the old highway. Photo taken 04/20/08.
Another section of opened freeway exists at the stack with Loop 289, Lubbock's loop freeway. Photo takens 04/20/08.
There are no control points here as the Marsha Sharp Freeway prepares to fly over Loop 289 on the southwest side of Lubbock. Photo taken 04/20/08.
