Our streaming is via Roku.  I can simply search for a movie title in the Roku itself, and it looks through all the various streaming services.  No need to search within each one separately.

I'm at around 4 months here and I think reading threads like this live is way better than not being on here at all, or reading the entire thing after it's locked or over. Sometimes it's nice to know that we don't all focus on roads entirely.

Quote from: wxfree on April 15, 2026, 12:19:09 PMOld people watch Fox News all day.  Young people can't pay attention to anything for longer than 15 seconds.  People in between, like me, mostly want to watch older stuff.  That's the domain of non-network broadcast, basic cable, and streaming.  A lot of the stuff I like to watch is even on free streaming, where it has fewer ads than television broadcasts or cable channels you pay to watch.  To survive, the networks need to convert their programming to 10 second videos, pornography, and conspiracy theories.  If you want to compete, you have to give the people what they want.
How dare you try to get this thread back on track.
I tried and failed a few dozen posts ago. I don't think this attempt will be any better, unfortunately.

FWIW the original topic pretty much ran its course.  I don't really know how much there is to say about the decline of TV networks beyond the obvious things already said.

I mean, nobody brought up these topics yet:

- the 'doofus dad' trope
- a dearth of sitcoms with kids in a traditional nuclear family
- an increase in the number of homosexual couples

I'm sure there's plenty to say about those points, and none of the related discussion could ever become heated or controversial.

In my case I don't really have much to add since modern sitcoms don't really resonate with me.  My wife watches Shifting Gears which seems to exist mostly off of nostalgia for Home Improvement and Two Broke Girls.  She also watches the new Scrubs which is basically a somewhat lesser version of the original show.

Bob's Burgers sort of subverts the first two points, though even that has been on the air 15 years.

I gave up on Bob's Burgers since it became so bland after Work Hard or Die Trying, Girl (stuck with it a few seasons after and it dawned on me that I hadn't laughed out loud in a long time, so why bother).  Still love the old clips of it, though.

Total shame regarding the latter because there is much to attempt to make sense of with roads in Mexico.

I had to finally block him on our page account once he discovered us.  I wasn't going to let his brand of harassment slide with people who comment on our posts or follow us.  Prior to that he got run off from two Facebook road groups for bad behavior.

I forget which one of our groups he tried to join but I ended up denying him.  I don't think he ever really understood that for the most part off forum he was still dealing with people who knew who he was.  The mainstream of this hobby is extremely small and word gets around.

Speaking of blocking when I noticed Calrog in FreewayJim I took quick action to block him from our Facebook page.  Given he was a California person I didn't want him trying to get all territorial or like a know it all with our stuff.  I never even directly interacted with him but still knew who he was.

There is on occasion hobby regulars who make weird comments on our page or try to stir problems up.  For the most I just hide their comments and they are none the wiser.

Chaos doesn't seem to intrigue much in the hobby mainstream.  If you constant chaotic variance with road standards then Mexico is the place.  Me personally I find it to be a blast to drive on and research dissect.

In Mexico figuring out which highway number is you are on sometimes is a surprising challenge.  Federal Highways often disappear and reappear without much rationale explanation.  They also often just disappear at large cities completely and functionally have gaps.
