NC moves from 2011 to 1995 if you count visiting an airport only, and VA moves from 2005 to 2001 if you count driving through without putting your feet on the ground.
If you always take the same road, you will never see anything new.

I was born in Connecticut in 1971. Since that time?

1974: MA/NH/ME (Moved to Wells, ME when I was three years old)
1983: NY (not 100% sure)
1984: RI (not 100% sure)
1989: NJ/DE/MD/VA and DC (Peter Pan escorted tour to Washington DC with a VA hotel room)
1990: VT (October 13th, entered via US 7 in Pownal)
1991: PA (March 16th, entered via Walt Whitman Bridge in Philadelphia)
2009: IL/FL (Chicago-Midway and Tampa, respectively, with separate plane trips)
2010: IN/OH/NC/TN (IN via Chicago on an NICTD train to Hammond, others on separate plane trips. Even without Hammond, I ended up in Indianapolis on a different plane trip from Chicago about 4 weeks later.)

Next state I want to add? Georgia. My next closest new state would be West Virginia.

As for the other posts, I don't count it if I fly over a given state. I've been over Michigan on a return flight from Chicago-Midway to Bradley Int'l north of Hartford. I do count Florida on my 2010 state count since I was inside of Orlando's airport (MCO) for a plane change. That happened twice. I was also stopped there with one other trip.

My brother has been in the same 18 states (and DC) that I've been in. My brother has also been in WV (1998) and WI (2005). Briefly, he has also been in QC (1997) and ON (2000).

PEI ... NF ... NWT
Minor nitpick... These should be PE, NL (for Newfoundland and Labrador), NT.

I don't remember that level of detail.   What I do recall:

last state visited:  Hawaii (1999)
second-to-last:  Alaska (1994)
third-to-last:  probably North Dakota (1994, on my way to Alaska), but since my father's family lives in the northeastern corner of South Dakota, and we lived for a few years in Fergus Falls MN when I was a little kid, odds are we cut through ND at one point or another

first:  North Carolina (1956), assuming being born there counts as a "visit".  That was followed by moves to Minnesota, Virginia, back to North Carolina, California, Connecticut, and back to Virginia, with lots of hard-to-track visits in between (particularly the first four moves, where we had to drive through a bunch of states but I was too young to remember which ones), plus a 1957 trip to be shown off to my Italian grandparents, which probably included an airport connection in New York but I don't know for sure it was there.

For Canada, first one might've been New Brunswick in 1989, on my way to PEI and Nova Scotia (in that order), though that might've been preceded by visits to Ontario and/or Quebec.  1994 was a rapid-fire sequence of visits to Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, and the Yukon, on my way to Alaska.  First visit to Newfoundland in 2003; Manitoba, 2008; and Northwest Territories, 2012.  I haven't been to Nunavut Territory.

Can't remember when I first visited OH, WV, VA, IN or TN because I would have been a youngster in my single digits, but I'm sure those first visits were prior to 1968. I do remember going to Ohio up I-75 in a driving rainstorm in the back seat of my dad's 1957 Chevy. Guessing a lot here as to years in my youth...

DandyDan

I was born in Minnesota in 1972.

I am too young to remember anything from 1972-1977, but somewhere in there, I presumably visited Wisconsin and Illinois in 1973 (because my grandparents lived in Illinois).  I also visited North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming and, South Dakota for the first time in 1973, but I was too young to remember, but I do remember all of those in 1978.

I have no idea exactly when my first trip to Iowa was.  3 different uncles and aunts live or used to live less than 10 miles north of Minnesota-Iowa border, but there wasn't a reason to ever go to Iowa and my parents are not the type to just go to Iowa just to say we were in Iowa, probably because they had already been there, and my dad had lived there for a time.  The first time I definitively remember being in Iowa was about 1982, because that was the year my dad decided we should go back from my grandparent's in Illinois via Iowa, plus that was the year we went to the IA/MN/SD tripoint, which somehow isn't in the Big Sioux River.

Anyway, the rest of the list:
1996-Nebraska (the year I moved here) and Missouri
1997-Kansas
1999-Indiana (fairly amazing being I used to live in the Chicago area and that I never went to Indiana while living there)
2001-Virginia, DC, Maryland
2002-Ohio, Michigan
2003-Kentucky, Tennessee
2009-Texas, New Mexico, Arizona

I have no idea what my next state will be.  My friend wants it to be California, but I want to make the trek to Colorado some time.

I seem to have good enough records to be sure about almost all of the list. The only question is when I first visited QC, because we lived close to the ON-QC border and my mother's aunt lived there about an hour from where we lived, so my first visit is younger than I remember.
