Following old U.S. 80, Business Loop I-8 at Yuma extends 12.33 miles southeast into Arizona from Winterhaven, California. The business route is locally maintained by the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) with the exception of 0.31 miles at the Colorado River and 0.25 miles along the N Frontage Road for Interstate 8 at Exit 9. Within California, the business loop is classified as Route 8U with 0.40 miles of state maintenance.
Business Loop I-8 forms a seamless route with the loop north of Interstate 8 through Winterhaven, California. Spanning the Colorado River, the route enters Yuma along N 4th Avenue. Almost completely lined with retail, restaurants or lodging establishments, 4th Avenue is a five lane boulevard taking Business Loop I-8 south to W 32nd Street by South Gate shopping center. Curving east, the business route lines 32nd Street to Yuma International Airport (YUM), suburban areas of unincorporated Yuma County, and I-8 north of the Yuma Desert.
