
Interstate A3 coincides with Alaska State Route 1 south from Anchorage 146.68 miles to Soldotna. The Interstate designation originates along Sterling Highway at Kenai Spur Highway to the south on the Kenai Peninsula. The north end utilizes the couplet of Ingra Street northbound and Gambell Street southbound from the couplet of E 5th/6th Avenues east of Downtown Anchorage. I-A3 north becomes I-A1 where SR 1 turns east from Ingra Street onto E 6th Avenue toward Glenn Highway.

I-A3 along Seward Highway is a limited access freeway or controlled access arterial for 8.88 miles leading south from the couplet of Ingra/Gambell Streets to E 154th Avenue along Turnagain Arm. This includes nine interchanges and a six lane stretch north from Dowling Road. I-A3 expands to eight lanes north from Fireweed Lane to the roadway separation for Ingra and Gambell Streets.
