STH-23 travels north from STH-11 near the Illinois state line in Lafayette County to Wisconsin Dells. The trunk highway extends from there along a general east to west course to Sheboygan near Lake Michigan. The 211 mile long route travels mostly along rural roads outside of cities and towns with the exception of overlaps with other routes and an expressway across Sheboygan County.
