Unsigned California 244 is a short freeway connecting Interstate 80 and Business 80/Capital City Freeway with Auburn Boulevard. This view looks east along California 244 as seen from the eastbound lanes of Business Loop I-80 northeast of Sacramento. Photo taken 11/23/12.
California 244 is a very short route that connects Interstate 80 and Business Loop I-80 (Capital City Freeway) and California 51 with Historic U.S. 40-99E/Auburn Avenue. Basically a long exit/entrance ramp, California 244 was intended to be a much longer route, which would connect to unconstructed California 143. Although California 244 is still on the books as a future freeway corridor, the route is unlikely to be constructed anytime soon.

||Although unsigned, California 244 is a short connector freeway between Auburn Boulevard and Interstate 80 and Business Loop I-80. This sign is located on south-westbound Auburn Boulevard as it approaches Junction California 244. Rather than use a California 244 shield, this sign tells motorists that the Interstate and Business Loop Freeway is only a short distance away via this ramp. Looking closely at this sign, the Business Loop I-80 is more recently placed. An Interstate 880 shield (former designation of Interstate 80 north of Sacramento) was scraped off this sign when that route was decommissioned. California 244 exists as part of a much longer proposed freeway that would connect the eastern suburbs of Sacramento, but it is not likely to be constructed anytime soon due to local opposition. ||California 244 begins at a traffic light with Auburn Boulevard. The freeway is only about a half-mile long, and almost as soon as you take the turn from Auburn Boulevard, signs announce the upcoming junction with Business Loop I-80 and Interstate 80. Notably, this advance sign does not incorporate a Business Loop shield and does not mention that this exit also leads to Sacramento. Photo taken 01/20/03.|
