Delaware 1A comprises a short loop into downtown Rehoboth Beach from Delaware 1. The state highway provides the main access route to the Rehoboth Beachfront and the nearby community of Henlopen Acres.
The alignment of Delaware 1 overtook the alignment of Delaware 14 from the city of Milford southward to the Maryland state line at Ocean City in the 1970s. When Delaware 14 was in place, the current Delaware 1A loop in Rehoboth and Dewey Beaches was signed Delaware 14A.
