The Guide to Delaware State Route 30

The origins of Delaware 30 can be traced back at least until 1944. The north-south state route then traveled only from Millsboro to Milton between U.S. 113 and Delaware 5 respectively. By 1964 Delaware 30 traveled a new path west of Milton along Gravel Hill, Isaacs, and Cedar Creek Roads to the city of Milford and Delaware 1. The growth of Delaware 30 however was yet to be complete.

By about 1985 or so, Delaware 30 again saw extension. The state highway continued southwestward by way of Delaware 24 & 26 (Millsboro Highway) to Gumboro and Dorthy Road westward to U.S. 13 between Delmar and Laurel. Overall the state route travels almost 45 miles through central and northern Sussex County. A recent project at Milford sees Delaware 30 extend northward alongside Delaware 1 as a frontage road to a new conclusion at Delaware 1 Business. Overlaps include Delaware 26 from Gumboro to Shaft Ox Corner, Delaware 24 from Mission to Millsboro, and Delaware 5A outside of Milton.

Scenes pertaining to Delaware 30
Wilkins Road used to carry Delaware 30 to its northern terminus at Delaware 1 southeast of Milford. The new alignment removed Delaware 30 from the short stretch of Wilkins Road between Cedar Creek Road and Delaware 1. Pictured here is the historic end of Delaware 30 via Wilkins Road eastbound. Photo taken 04/13/04.
Wilkins Road now acts as the connector between Delaware 1 and Delaware 30 (Cedar Creek Road). The two state routes parallel one another between here and the partial "Y" interchange with Delaware 1 Business (Rehoboth Boulevard). Photo taken 04/13/04.
