County R

County R follows the former route of US 141. It was originally constructed as a bypass of Manitowoc but urban sprawl has made it more of a suburban arterial route. When I-43 opened in the early 1980s, US 141 was decommissioned south of Bellevue and the stretch between Bellevue and Manitowoc was designated as County R. Between Custer Street and US 151, County R was turned back to city control along with most county roads within the City of Manitowoc in the mid 2000s. A portion of County R also carried part of US 10 until new alignments were built to connect with I-43.

Rapids Road starts just after US 151 (Calumet Avenue) on the southwest side of Manitowoc. Manitowoc County turned over this stretch of arterial to the City of Manitowoc, and County R signs were removed after the change. 04/16/16
