Indiana State Road 25 north
The eastern segment of SR 25 begins at the Interstate 65 interchange northeast of Lafayette. This is the first reassurance shield for the highway along this segment. 11/02/13
Just beyond I-65, a new multi-lane roundabout greets motorists northeast of the interchange, connecting with Old SR 25, the road that carried the SR 25 designation until October 24, 2012. 11/02/13
Previous look at the signage approaching the roundabout before the signs were placed upon the gantry. 10/28/12
The right two lanes of SR 25 northbound bypass the roundabout to become the eastbound lanes for the new SR 25 expressway. Traffic desiring to use the Old SR 25 stays in the left lane and enters the roundabout to join the former alignment of SR 25. 10/28/12
A distance sign gives the distances to Delphi (12 miles) and Logansport (37 miles). 10/28/12
Now coming up to the first of several overpasses along the new SR 25 expressway. The overpasses are necessary because of the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks to the south of the new highway. The old SR 25 followed the edge of the Wabash River valley to the north while the new highway stays on flat terrain following the railroad line. The overpass ahead is for County Road 300 North. 10/28/12
Now at the County Road 500 East overpass. An access road connects the county road with the SR 25 expressway on the northwest quadrant. 10/28/12
Views of the new SR 25 expressway in between Lafayette and Buck Creek. The new highway in Tippecanoe County is a concrete highway and is built almost to resemble a freeway (similar to U.S. 24 northeast of Fort Wayne), but is still an expressway and not a freeway. SR 25 bypasses the small town of Buck Creek along this stretch. 10/28/12
Now coming up to the access road to County Road 900 East in far northeastern Tippecanoe County. Up ahead the expressway prepares to bypass the even smaller town of Coburn. Only when bypassing towns does the highway deviate from the path of the Norfolk Southern railroad track. 10/28/12
East of the County Road 900 East overpass, a distance sign gives the distances to Coburn (two miles) and Delphi (seven miles). 10/28/12
Approaching Sugar Creek along the SR 25 expressway ahead of Coburn and Delphi. 10/28/12
County Road 700 North connects SR 25 with the town of Coburn to the east. 10/28/12
North of County Road 700 North, Delphi is five miles away. For the relatively short 12 mile stretch of expressway from Lafayette to Delphi, there are several distance signs. 10/28/12
A former advisory sign alerted thru truck traffic to turn left onto Old SR 25 into Delphi to access U.S. 421, SR 18 and SR 39 in town. Thru traffic continuing on SR 25 past Delphi should also get off onto Old SR 25 and follow it town. Since the expressway was completed from Delphi to Logansport this is no longer necessary. 10/28/12
Another advisory sign tells truck traffic to turn left onto Old SR 25 up ahead. 10/28/12
Old SR 25 turns off to the left to follow the former routing of SR 25 into the Carroll County seat of Delphi (population 2,893). Most Lafayette-to-Delphi traffic will leave the highway at this point. 10/28/12
Downtown Delphi is now three miles away. 10/28/12
East of the Old SR 25 intersection, SR 25 enters Carroll County (population 20,155). 11/25/15
Another sign welcomes motorists into Carroll County along SR 25 as the highway transitions to asphalt for part of the Delphi bypass. 11/25/15
The SR 25 expressway nears the interchange with U.S. 421, SR 18 & 39. SR 18 goes for 141 miles across north central Indiana from the Illinois state line and east through Fowler, Delphi and Marion before ending at U.S. 27 in Bryant. SR 39 runs for 180 miles from SR 37 in Martinsville and north through Danville, Lebanon, Frankfort, Delphi, Monticello and LaPorte before ending at the Michigan state line. 11/25/15
SR 25 expressway arrives at the interchange with U.S. 421, SR 18 & 39. U.S. 421 travels for 232 miles across Indiana from Michigan City to the north through Reynolds, Monticello, Frankfort, Indianapolis, Shelbyville, Greensburg, Versailles and Madison. Nationally, the highway goes for 941 miles from Michigan City to Wilmington, North Carolina. Notice the Illinois-style highway markers on the guide sign. This is the only interchange along the expressway from Lafayette to Logansport. 11/25/15
The Clinton County community of Rossville lies under ten miles to the southeast along U.S. 421, SR 18 & 39. Delphi lies one mile to the north. SR 25 temporary followed the highway to the north into Delphi while the stretch from Delphi to Logansport was still under construction. 10/28/12
An SR 25 reassurance shield greets motorists north of the exit with U.S. 421, SR 18 & 39. This begins the stretch of the SR 25 expressway that opened to traffic on October 18, 2013. 11/25/15
The Cass County seat of Logansport is 22 miles away. 11/25/15
Up ahead is the SR 25 crossing over Deer Creek and intersection with Main Street. Main Street provides a link to the east side of Delphi via the old routing of SR 25. 11/25/15
North of the intersection with Main Street, SR 25 passes underneath the Freedom Bridge pedestrian overpass. The truss bridge was originally built in 1898 outside of the town of Freedom in Owen County. It was dismantled in 2001 and reassembled over SR 25 in 2014 with the bridge dedication in 2015. The span is part of the Monon High Bridge Trail. 11/25/15
Now northeast of Delphi, SR 25 nears the intersection with SR 218, a 91 mile highway that exists in two segments. The western 45 mile long stretch of highway begins here at SR 25 and travels east to SR 19 in Santa Fe. 11/25/15
The town of Camden is six miles to the east while Bunker Hill lies 34 miles away in Miami County. 11/25/15
SR 218 heads east from SR 25. The former routing of SR 25 is just west of this intersection. 11/25/15
SR 25 reassurance shield north of the intersection with SR 218. 11/25/15
Logansport is now an easy 19 miles away along SR 25. 11/25/15
North of Delphi, the SR 25 expressway more closely follows the route of the former SR 25, a heavily-used two lane highway that connected Lafayette with Delphi and Logansport. The Norfolk Southern railroad track continues to follow the highway to the right. 11/25/15
Rockfield Road provides the only access from SR 25 into the town of Rockfield, which the highway used to pass through. Now the expressway bypasses the town to the immediate north with the former routing of SR 25 ending at cul-de-sacs at both ends of town. 11/25/15
Northeast of Rockfield, SR 25 continues as an expressway along the former route of SR 25, with the northbound lanes roughly following the path of the original highway. Previous intersections with county roads are eliminated with either cul-de-sacs or overpasses, giving the highway a near-freeway look. 11/25/15
County Road 900 North intersects with SR 25 to provide a link to the town of Burrows directly east of the expressway. 11/25/15
County Road 100 East provides another access point into Burrows from the north off of SR 25. 11/25/15
Northeast of Burrows, the SR 25 expressway resumes a northeast trajectory. An overpass for County Road 1000 North spans both the expressway and the Norfolk Southern railroad tracks in this scene. 11/25/15
Unannounced, the SR 25 expressway enters Cass County (population 38,966) by the County Road 1000 North overpass. Clymers lies a short distance to the north. 11/25/15
County Road 400 South leads to the town of Clymers, immediately east of the expressway. The former route of SR 25 follows a path directly east of the highway for a short distance, ending in cul-de-sacs on either end of its bypass of Clymers. 11/25/15
Northeast of Clymers, SR 25 is only a few miles from Logansport. The highway continues to follow the former routing of old SR 25. During construction of the new expressway, the northbound lanes for a time served as the routing for the old SR 25 before the southbound lanes were finished and SR 25 was moved onto both sides. Incidentally, this was the last stretch of the highway to be finished, even some of the bridges were just completed in 2015. 11/25/15
Old State Road 25 prepares to follow the former routing of SR 25 into the city of Logansport. SR 25 will follow a new alignment to the south that allows for it to meet up with the U.S. 24 & 35 expressway bypass of Logansport in a free-flowing manner. 11/25/15
Old State Road 25 turns off of SR 25 to head northeast into Logansport, meeting up with U.S. 24 & 35 at a folded diamond interchange on the west side of town. When the new expressway opened in 2013, SR 25 was rerouted along a different path through Logansport. 11/25/15
East of the intersection with Old State Road 25, SR 25 approaches the interchange with U.S. 24 & 35. U.S. 24 goes for 164 miles across the highway from west of Kentland through Monticello, Logansport, Peru, Wabash, Huntington and Fort Wayne. It exists as a four lane expressway from Logansport to Fort Wayne. U.S. 35 runs for 210 miles across Indiana from Michigan City to the north through LaPorte, Logansport, Kokomo, Gas City, Muncie and Richmond before heading east into Ohio. 11/25/15
SR 25 will exit off of the Hoosier Heartland Corridor highway during a complex switching of routings with U.S. 24 & 35 as the interchange meets up with two separate routes. SR 29 follows south from SR 25 for 31.6 miles through the towns of Michigantown and Burlington, along the route of the historic Michigan Road toward U.S. 421 in Clinton County. The highway provides a direct link with U.S. 421 to Indianapolis, some 70 miles to the south. 11/25/15
SR 25 officially turns off of the Hoosier Heartland Corridor as U.S. 24 & 35 take over east of here en route to Fort Wayne (77 miles away) and Kokomo (24 miles away). The exit provides the best route into the city of Logansport along with the communities of LaPorte (via U.S. 35 north) and Rochester (via SR 25 north). The split diamond interchange was designed with the idea that most traffic is traveling from Lafayette to Fort Wayne and will therefore require U.S. 24 to complete that journey. Theoretically there is no highway routing for the stretch of expressway between ramps for this interchange. 11/25/15
Originally, the signage at the interchange with SR 25 and U.S. 24 & 35 featured the control city of Monticello for U.S. 24 west, omitting Logansport entirely. Likely due to the need to direct motorists into the Cass County seat, and due to the fact that Monticello is nearly due west of this location, Monticello was substituted with Logansport. Westbound traffic along U.S. 24 & 35 at the other end of this interchange retains Monticello as the control city, since Logansport-bound traffic is likely to have already exited off further to the east. 10/26/13
SR 25 follows the exit ramp from the Hoosier Heartland Corridor and approaches the first intersection with U.S. 24 west and U.S. 35 north, and SR 29 south. Monticello lies 22 miles to the west along U.S. 24 while LaPorte is 68 miles to the north along U.S. 35. Logansport-bound traffic is directed to continue straight past the first intersection. 10/26/13
SR 25 arrives at the first intersection with U.S. 24 west & U.S. 35 north. The two US highways continue east along the access road ahead with SR 25 while SR 29 begins its 31.6 mile trip to U.S. 421 near Boyleston in eastern Clinton County. 10/26/13
SR 25 briefly shares pavement with U.S. 24 & 35 in between the two intersections as a part of this interchange. Traffic bound for Fort Wayne and Kokomo are directed to continue straight past the next intersection and onto the Hoosier Heartland Highway expressway. Traffic bound for Logansport and Rochester along SR 25 turns left at the upcoming intersection. 10/26/13
SR 25 turns north from U.S. 24 & 35 as the two U.S. highways proceed onto the Hoosier Heartland Highway expressway. To the south, Burlington Avenue follows the former routing of SR 329 south to SR 29. SR 329 existed until 2000 as a connector route between SR 29 and Downtown Logansport. The highway had been turned back to Logansport before SR 25 was added to the road as a part of the rerouting of the state highway in conjunction with the Hoosier Heartland Highway completion. 10/26/13
