Alabama Route 177 loops 5.16 miles east from U.S. 43 into Jackson, the county seat of Clarke County. The route was four-laned from the U.S. 43 by the Tombigbee River southward to accommodate increasing truck traffic to industrial areas. SR 69 ends at SR 177 north of Downtown Jackson.
Historically, SR 177 represents the original alignment for U.S. 43. U.S. 43 bypasses the city to the northwest on a four-lane alignment.
