U.S. 1 south merges with U.S. 64 beyond I-40/440 ahead of succeeding ramps (Exits 101B/A) for Buck Jones Road, Crossroads Boulevard to Crossroads Plaza and Walnut Street (SR 1313). 05/30/07
Exit 101 originally consisted of a single ramp connecting with Buck Jones Road and Walnut Street. 2005-06 construction expanded the first of three interchanges serving the city of Cary. 07/12/05
Work on redesigning the interchange at Walnut Street was completed in mid-November 2006. A loop ramp (Exit 101A) was added beyond the previous exit ramp. 07/12/05
Exit 101A connects U.S. 1 with Walnut Street ahead of the c/d roadway end. Walnut Street (SR 1313) heads south to Macedonia at Holly Springs Road (SR 1152) and northwest to Cary Towne Center and Downtown Cary. 05/30/07
U.S. 1 next meets Cary Parkway (SR 3977) at Exit 99. Construction expanded the forthcoming diamond interchange into a six-ramp parclo. 05/30/07
Reconstruction of U.S. 1/64 expanded Claude E. Pope Memorial Highway to eight overall lanes between Exit 101A and 99. Sound walls were installed along both sides of the freeway during the project. 05/30/07
Spanning U.S. 1/64 just ahead of Exit 99, a pedestrian bridge linking MacDonald Woods Park with Kids Together Park was built during modernization of the freeway through Cary. 05/30/07
Exit 99 departs U.S. 1/64 south for Cary Parkway (SR 3977). Originating from Holly Springs Road (SR 1152) to the east, Cary Parkway encircles Cary northward to N Harrison Avenue (SR 1652). 05/30/07
U.S. 64 branches west from U.S. 1 south at the first of three interchanges serving the city of Apex. U.S. 64 travels across Jordan Lake on the 25 mile drive to the Pittsboro Bypass. 05/30/07
U.S. 64 west leaves U.S. 1 south for an arterial route between Cary and Apex. U.S. 64 joins the Raleigh area with Pittsboro and Siler City in adjacent Chatham County, and Asheboro. 01/02/08

Exit 98A follows as a loop ramp onto Tryon Road (SR 1009) east to the commercial and medical center at Kildaire Farms Road (SR 1300) and Regency Park. Tryon Road continues east into south Raleigh. 05/30/07
U.S. 1 reverts to its original four lane freeway leading away from U.S. 64. Downtown Apex lies three miles to the west along Center Street (SR 1010). Sanford is 34 miles to the south. 07/12/05
The succeeding exit from U.S. 1 south is a parclo B2 interchange with Ten Ten Road (SR 1010). 05/30/07, 07/12/05
Ten Ten Road continues east from Exit 96 to Penny Road (SR 1379) and south Cary and west onto Center Street into Apex. 01/02/08
NC 55 (Williams Street) heads south from central Apex to meet U.S. 1 at a diamond interchange (Exit 95). 07/12/05
Exit 95 leaves U.S. 1 south for NC 55 (Williams Street). NC 55 heads south to Feltonville, Holly Springs, and Fuquay-Varina over the next eight miles. Running between Durham and Oriental on Pamlico Sound, the state route is 197 miles long. 07/12/05
Meeting U.S. 1 at Exit 93, NC 540 (Triangle Expressway) arcs southeast from Apex to Holly Springs. The toll road opened to traffic east to NC 55 at Feltonville on December 20, 2012. 02/15/19
Transitioning to a rural freeway, U.S. 1 continues from the Apex to New Hill (Exit 89) and 50 miles to Pinehurst. 02/15/19
New Hill Holleman Road (SR 1127) meets U.S. 1 at the final Wake County exit near New Hill. Exit 89 serves Shearon Harris Reservoir to the south and Jordan Lake to the north. 02/15/19
U.S. 1 advances southwest through timberland north of Shearon Harris Reservoir and the Harris Nuclear Plant. 02/15/19
Removed by 2013, a distance sign preceding the Shearon Harris Road (SR 1134) overpass listed the Lee County seat of Sanford in 21 miles and Southern Pines in 45 miles. 07/12/05
Old U.S. 1 converges with U.S. 1 southwest from Bonsal at Exit 84. 02/15/19
U.S. 1 crosses into Chatham County between Bonsal and Merry Oaks. 02/15/19
