Prior to the completion of the U.S. 53 bypass through Eau Claire, 39,000 vehicles per day (vpd) were recorded on what is now U.S. 53 Business through the village of Chippewa Falls. The number dropped to 19,000 vpd by 2015.1

The roundabout at the south end of the U.S. 53 freeway, near the cloverleaf interchange with Interstate 94, was constructed in 2008. Accommodating two lanes per direction, the roundabout joins U.S. 53 with Old Town Hall Road west and Scully Drive east. Scully Drive links the highway with a Gander Mountain store built in 2007-08. The junction was built as part of a $5.4 million project that included resurfacing of U.S. 53 from Golf Road south to the State Patrol headquarters started on April 25, 2008.2
