A commercialized diamond interchange at Exit 225 links I-25 with 136th Avenue between north Westminster and Eastlake in Thornton.

Exit 221 departs I-25 south for 104th Avenue. Northglenn, the "Center of the Future" was incorporated in April 1969, had a population of 38,419 per the 2020 Census, and rests at an elevation of between 5,160 and 5,222 feet above sea level.

The succeeding two exits fall within Thornton, the "City of Planned Progress". Named after former Governor Dan Thornton, Thornton was first developed in 1953 and incorporated as a city in 1956. Explosive growth resulted in a major population gain from 82,384 in the 2000 Census to 141,867 in the 2020 Census.

The diamond interchange with Thornton Parkway (92nd Avenue) was constructed in 1985. The exchange was funded primarily through an urban renewal district. The district also funded improvements in Downtown Thornton.

The high rises of Downtown Denver come into view 1.25 miles north of Exit 219 / 84th Avenue. I-25 at this point is around 5,700 feet above sea level.

A heavily traveled commuter route, U.S. 36 emerges west from the end of I-270 to Westminster and Broomfield. U.S. 36 east is unmarked along I-270 to Commerce City and Northfield in Denver.

Completed in 2005, the flyover linking I-25 south with I-270 east was the last connection built at the exchange with U.S. 36.

The Denver-Boulder Turnpike was originally built as a toll road in 1952. With the removal of tolls in 1967, U.S. 36 was extended along the freeway northwest.
