The first sign for Interstate 229 / Exit 400 precedes the exchange with Business Spur I-90/SD 115 (Cliff Avenue). I-229 comprises an urban loop south through Sioux Falls.

Completed on November 8, 2013, a $17.4 million construction project upgraded the diamond interchange at Exit 399 into a SPUI.1 Sign changes made for the project removed Business Spur I-90, a local designation coinciding with SD 115 south to Business Loop I-229 in Downtown.

Cliff Avenue provides a number of traveler services southward from Exit 399 to industrial areas at Benson Road. Connecting Sioux Falls with Renner and Dell Rapids, SD 115 north begins at 72nd Street N. SD 115 was created in 1980 when U.S. 77 was realigned onto I-29. A 2001 relocation deviated the route from the original U.S. 77 along North Drive onto Minnesota Avenue and Benson Road through the city.2

Known also as the Eastside Corridor, SD 100 is a long planned controlled access bypass heading southwest through the rural outskirts of Sioux Falls. Construction on the route between Madison and Maple Streets was completed on August 5, 2016 at a cost of $8.9 million.3 Exit 402 was reconfigured into a SPUI for the route.

SD 100 extends south from Exit 402 to the junction of SD 11 and SD 42. Construction upgrading Exit 402 into a single point urban interchange (SPUI) was completed on November 6, 2019. The $54.6 million project commenced in early 2018.4
