Interstate 70 Westbound
Interstate 70 westbound crosses over the west branch of the Ohio River between Wheeling Island, West Virginia and Bridgeport, Ohio. The freeway sees a diamond interchange with Marion Street in Bridgeport 0.3 miles west of the U.S. 40 (National Road) intersection with U.S. 250 & Ohio 7 (Lincoln Avenue). Ohio 7 parallels the Ohio River east banks between Bridgeport and Blainesville nearby. Photo taken 10/15/04.
Exit 225 leaves Interstate 70 westbound for Marion Street. Marion Street intersects U.S. 40 (National Road) nearby and Hall Street to the south in Bridgeport. U.S. 40 meets U.S. 250 & Ohio 7 (Lincoln Avenue) in the shadows of the Interstate 70 bridge over the Ohio River. U.S. 40 (National Road) parallels Interstate 70 to the north through the communities of Brookside, Wolfhurst, Lansing, and Blaine before encountering the freeway again at Exit 220. Interstate 470 traffic merges onto Interstate 70 at a partial "Y" interchange just west of Exit 220 and Blaine. The Wheeling bypass carries the bulk of the through traffic between Washington, Pennsylvania and Columbus, Ohio around downtown Wheeling. Exit 213 leaves Interstate 70 westbound for Ohio 331. Ohio 331 ends at the U.S. 40 (National Road) intersection with Belmont County 82 (Airport Road) nearby. Airport Road meanders 3.1 miles south to Ohio 149 (Warnock Lamira Road). U.S. 40 otherwise passes over Interstate 70 at the next overpass en route to Morristown 5.7 miles to the west. Underwood Street carries the paired routes north from U.S. 22-40 & Ohio 93 (Main Street & Greenwood Avenue) to junction Ohio 666 (Zane Street) and Adair Avenue in north Zanesville. Interstate 70 spans the Muskingum River north of downtown Zanesville between Exits 155 Ohio 60 & 146) and 153B (Maple Avenue). The freeway briefly expands to six lanes with the addition of auxiliary lanes between the respective ramps of the two interchanges. A partial "Y" interchange constitutes the junction between Maple Avenue and Interstate 70 at Exit 153B. Maple Avenue becomes part of Ohio 60 north of Ohio 146 (Adair Avenue) in one half mile. Exit 153A leaves Interstate 70 westbound for State Street at West Zanesville. State Street travels 0.6 miles northeast from U.S. 40 (Main Street) to junction Interstate 70 and Blue Avenue. U.S. 40 (West Pike) again meets Interstate 70 at the Exit 152 diamond interchange west of Zanesville. The US highway (National Road) parallels Interstate 70 to the north from Exit 152 through Mt. Interstate 270 constitutes the Columbus Beltway providing connections with Interstate 71 north to Cleveland and south to Cincinnati. All hazardous cargo must use the beltway to bypass downtown Columbus as well and A collector/distributor roadway segregates the movements of Exit 108 to/from Interstate 270 from the Interstate 70 mainline. Exit 108B splits from the Interstate 70 westbound c/d roadway to Interstate 270 north (outer loop) for Gahanna, Port Columbus International Airport, Westerville, and junction Interstate 71 north to Cleveland. Interstate 270 interchanges with the eastern terminus of Interstate 670 eight miles to the north at Exit 35.
