Benson Road basically peters out east of the freeway, but an extension is planned to tie into the new South Dakota 100 (Eastern Corridor) bypass of Sioux Falls. Interstate 229 again expands to three lanes on the approach to Business Loop Interstate 229 & South Dakota 42 (Exit 6). 10th Street carries the pair westward into downtown Sioux Falls. Exit 6 departs Interstate 229 south at the 6th Street overpass. South Dakota 42 (former U.S. 16) enters Sioux Falls from northwest Iowa and follows 10th Street with Business Loop Interstate 229 to junction Minnesota 115 (Minnesota Avenue) within the Sioux Falls central business district. Business Loop Interstate 229 & Minnesota 115 follow Minnesota Avenue northward to downtown where they meet South Dakota 10 (10th Street) and a combination of Business Spurs Interstate 29 and 90. Exit 1C consists of a partial-cloverleaf interchange with Louise Avenue on Interstate 229 south. Louise Avenue travels northward through an area built up with apartments and other multi-family dwellings to 49th Street and Empire Mall.
