With the exception of a 0.182 mile segment below I-80 at Exit 16, Business Loop I-80 through Reno and Sparks is locally maintained. As such, the route is sparsely signed, with just two reassurance markers per direction remaining as of 2017. The business route branches south from I-80 at a single point interchange (Exit 12) onto Keystone Avenue to connect with 4th Street (historic U.S. 40) in Reno. Overlaying former U.S. 40, Business Loop I-80 proceeds east through Downtown Reno to Galletti Way and the Sparks city line.
Becoming Prater Way beyond the Reno city line, Business Loop I-80 passes below Interstate 80 at Exit 16. There a remaining snippet of SR 647 coincides with the route; SR 647 formerly ran concurrent with all of the business route. Separating from Prater Way, Business Loop I-80 follows Victorian Avenue and parallels the freeway just to the north to the Sparks central business district. Victorian Avenue leads east to end at a parclo interchange (Exit 19) joining Interstate 80 with SR 659 (McCarran Boulevard).
4th Street continues west from Keystone Avenue through West Reno to Interstate 80 at Mogul. SR 647 remains designated along the western 3.22 miles of 4th Street, from SR 659 (McCarron Boulevard) to a wye interchange (Exit 7) with I-80.
