FM 294 travels north-south for 38.25 miles within the Texas Panhandle Counties of Armstrong and Carson. The rural highway stems north from U.S. 287 at the rural community of Goodnight across open ranch and farm land to a series of hills around the Salt Fork of the Red River. Curving northeast, FM 294 enters Carson County and bee lines north to IH 40 west of Groom en route to the town of White Deer and U.S. 60.
Within White Deer, FM 294 lines Main Street through the business district to a split with FM 2385 west. FM 294 extends north from there to SH 152, where it briefly dog legs west to connect with Main Street north into Skellytown. FM 294 ends at 1st and Main Streets.
