Interstate 240 Oklahoma Guides

A proposal by the Oklahoma Transportation Authority (OTA) in 2021 extends IH 240 into a full beltway around the Oklahoma City (OKC) area. Approved conditionally by the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), the extended route awaits concurrent approval by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in Fall 2021. It will overtake all 31.05 miles of the John Kilpatrick Turnpike, south from IH 40 to SH 152 and north around OKC to the north split of IH 35/44. IH 240 will overlay the eastern 5.04 miles of SH 152 from the Kilpatrick Turnpike to IH 44 just north of the trumpet interchange where it currently begins.

Following a 5.4 mile long overlap with IH 40 east from the original end in southeast OKC, IH 240 will overtake the Kickapoo Turnpike north 18.71 miles to IH 44 along the Turner Turnpike at the town of Luther. IH 240 will complete the loop via IH 44 west to the John Kilpatrick Turnpike near Arcadia Lake in OKC.
