U.S. 20 quickly expands to four lanes leading into the intersection with Locust Street (unsigned Iowa 946). Iowa 946 connects the Julien Dubuque Bridge west end with Downtown Dubuque, U.S. 61/151 north to Dickeyville, Wisconsin, and U.S. 61-151 south to Dubuque Regional Airport (DBQ), the Quad Cities and Cedar Rapids. 05/30/11

A sign bridge supports all traffic lights between U.S. 20 (Dodge Street) and Iowa 946 (Locust Street). Locust Street is the pre-freeway alignment of U.S. 52-61-151 northward into the Downtown District. 05/30/11

Dubuque County is one of 37 counties in northeastern Iowa included in the Silos and Smokestacks National Heritage Area. The National Park Service heritage area focuses number of sites, programs and events celebrating the history of agriculture in America. 12/21/09

U.S. 20 immediately upgrades to a freeway on the climb from the Mississippi River area toward the West End District. A split diamond interchange follows in a half mile with Grandview and Fremont Avenues. The Bryant and Hill Street off-ramp precedes that exit however. 12/21/09

Right-in right-out (RIRO) ramps joins U.S. 20 (Dodge Street) with Bryant Street south to Grandview Avenue and Hill Street north to Mercy Hospital and 9th Street outside downtown. 12/21/09

Traffic bound for the College Grandview District departs U.S. 20 west for Grandview and Fremont Avenues. Grandview Avenue leads north to Finley Hospital and Clarke University while Fremont Avenue stems south from Lombard Street and U.S. 20 to a residential area by the Middle Fork of Catfish Creek. 12/21/09
