SH 24 travels northeast from IH 30 in Hunt County to Commerce and the Delta County seat of Cooper. Combining with SH 19, SH 24 heads north into Lamar County to end a 48.81 mile route in Downtown Paris.
SH 19 and SH 24 provide the main route from Paris southward to the regional centers of Greenville and Dallas. Part of a larger regional route system from Dallas to Ft. Smith and Northwestern Arkansas, the bulk of the 15.8 mile overlap for SH 19 and 24 constitutes a four-lane divided highway.
