Virginia Route 76 follows the tolled Powhite Parkway southwest from Interstate 195 in Richmond to SR 652 (Old Hundred Road) and SR 754 (Coalfield Road) in the southwest suburbs. The road opened January 24, 1973 between SR 150 and Cary Street, a stretch of 3.4 miles. A western extension of the Powhite Parkway opened on September 30, 1988 at a cost of $100 million. The 10.5 mile project included a 2.5 mile segment of SR 288 from the Powhite extension south to Hull Street.1
