Still not traveling much, though did make a daytrip to the Big Bend of Florida, checking out some state roads from Steinhatchee north to Live Oak and west to Madison. A planned trip to the Mid-Atlantic was postponed due to COVID19, so took the opportunity to at least catch up on more of the photo backlog in North Carolina and Virginia from previous trips through the region. Carter took some photos recently along U.S. 74 eastbound at the new Shelby Bypass currently under construction. The interstate standard freeway will eventually shift U.S. 74 north onto a freeway around the Cleveland County seat, connecting with the U.S. 74 freeway around Kings Mountain further east. The Tar Heel state continues to lead the nation in proposing and developing new Interstate corridors. Additions approved by AASHTO in 2016 alone designated Interstates 42, 87 and 587. The often delayed interchange between Interstate 65 and the new Interstate 22 in north Birmingham is finally nearing completion. Although now 18 months behind schedule from the October 2014 target date, final paving along the two mile stretch between Coalburg Road and I-65 should be finished by June.
