U.S. 45 begins its nearly 1,300 mile trek to Ontonagon, Michigan in the Port City of Mobile at the split of St. Stephens Road and U.S. 98 (Spring Hill Avenue). The US highway follows St. Stephens Road northward through Prichard to Eight Mile along an urban route. Beyond the Prichard community of Kushla, U.S. 45 transitions to a rural route, traversing rolling hills and pine forest for the bulk of the course through northern Mobile and Washington Counties. The exception is through the city of Citronelle, which offers the largest array of traveler services between Mobile and State Line, Mississippi.
