U.S. 45 commences a 1,297 mile long route to Ontonagon, Michigan from U.S. 98 (Spring Hill Avenue) in the Port City of Mobile. U.S. 45 follows St. Stephens Road northward from Mobile through Prichard to Eight Mile along an urban boulevard. Beyond the community of Kushla in Prichard, U.S. 45 transitions to a rural route, traversing rolling hills and pine forest for the bulk of the course through northern Mobile and Washington Counties. The exception is through the city of Citronelle, which offers the largest array of traveler services between Mobile and State Line, Mississippi.
