Quad Cities Road Map

15 miles long within the Quad Cities, Illinois Route 5 originally ran over the entire length of the East West Tollway between East Moline and Chicago. When Interstate 88 was designated in 1987, the state route was truncated to the portion leading west from I-80. The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) approved the I-88 designation subjected to Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) concurrence on May 25, 1987.

Located wholly within the Quad Cities, IL 5 initially lines Blackhawk Road east in Rock Island 2.52 miles from U.S. 67 (11th Street) a parclo interchange joining 52nd Avenue, John Deere Road and Milan Beltway. IL 5 continues east along John Deere Road, a controlled access arterial, 7.53 miles across the south side of Moline to John Deere World Headquarters and southeastern reaches of Silvis.

Heading north through east Silvis, IL 5 proceeds 1.73 miles from Avenue of the Cities and Colona Road to a parclo interchange with IL 84/92 in Carbon Cliff. The eastern extent of IL 5 overlaps with IL 92 for 3.95 miles between IL 84 (1st Avenue) in the village of Carbon Cliff and the exchange joining I-80/88 in the city of East Moline.

Prior to completion of John Deere Road west from 16th Street, IL 5 followed 16th Street north, 36th Avenue west, 46th Avenue and Black Hawk Road. The state route later shifted onto the four lane arterial southward to a T-intersection with 46th Avenue / Black hawk Road and 52nd Avenue.

IL 5 (John Deere Expressway) curves northward into the city of Silvis on the bluffs north of the Rock River. 03/11/17
