Illinois Route 78 forms a multi state highway with Wis 78 from Jacksonville, Illinois north to Portage, Wisconsin. Collectively the two routes measure 308 miles across mixture of flat agricultural areas and forested hills. IL 78 links a number of county seats, including Virginia, Havana, Morrison and Mt. Carroll along a 215.5 mile course. The state route also overlaps with portions of U.S. 136, U.S. 24, U.S. 150, U.S. 34, U.S. 30 and U.S. 20.
