U.S. 22, the William Penn Highway, stretches across the width of Pennsylvania between Weirton, West Virginia and Easton in the Lehigh Valley. Serving major cities such as Pittsburgh, Harrisburg and Allentown, U.S. 22 has several branches (U.S. 222, U.S. 322, U.S. 422 and U.S. 522) that connect to other major destinations in Pennsylvania.

U.S. 22 Pennsylvania Guides

The western extent of U.S. 22 follows a freeway from the state line east to U.S. 30 near Imperial and Interstate 376 at Robinson township. Although generally unmarked, U.S. 22/30 overlap with I-376 across Pittsburgh. U.S. 30 turns south toward Turtle Creek while U.S. 22 remains with I-376 to the Pennsylvania Turnpike (I-76) at Monroeville.

Continuing east from Allegheny County, U.S. 22 is a four lane highway to Ebensburg. U.S. 119 overlaps with the route for 13 miles on this section. East of Ebensburg, U.S. 22 upgrades to a freeway to Interstate 99 at Duncansville.

Traversing the Appalachian Mountains, U.S. 22 heads northeast from Holidaysburg to Water Street and southeast to Huntingdon and U.S. 522 at Mount Union. U.S. 22/522 overlap northeast to a freeway bypass of Lewistown, where U.S. 322 ties in from the north.

U.S. 522 branches northeast to Middleburg and Selinsgrove while U.S. 22/322 continue along a freeway southeast from Lewistown to U.S. 11/15 near Duncannon, and from the Susquehanna River south into Harrisburg. U.S. 22 loops into the capital city before paralleling I-81 east to Paxtonia and Jonestown.

U.S. 22 converges with Interstate 78 near Hamlin and overlaps with the route east to the Lehigh Valley Thruway. U.S. 22 follows the Lehigh Valley Thruway across the north side of Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton.

Pennsylvania Route 230 West
PA 230 follows Cameron Street north through the city of Harrisburg to U.S. 22 (Arsenal Boulevard) at Maclay Street. U.S. 22 overtakes Cameron Street north to the freeway connecting with I-81/U.S. 322. 07/01/00

PA 230 was formerly U.S. 230, an intrastate route joining Lancaster with Harrisburg. Cameron Street at U.S. 22 (Arsenal Boulevard) represents the historic west end of the US Highway. 07/01/00
